Indian Artifacts
In the remote cliff shelters that surround the Carter Caves area, early explorers found the remains of ten thousand years of Native habitation.
From fine Clovis points left by Paleolithic man (10,500 B.C.- 8,000 B.C.)
To effigy and ceremonial objects of the Archaic people (1,000 B.C.-8,000 B.C.)
Each culture that sweep across the Ohio Valley left its mark on the cliff and cave areas of Northeastern Kentucky. In Woodland times (800 A.D. - 1,000 B.C.) the heights of culture and wealth was reached by the Hopewell People (300 B.C. - 450 A.D.).
In the coming days we will share, in pictures and words, many of the treasures accumulated by four generations of our family - many never before displayed to the public.
